Adelaja: Retrospective of a Cubist Artist

Left of Center Art Gallery is excited to present, “Adelaja, a Retrospective of a Cubist Artist”, an exhibition of work by artist, Dayo Adelaja. Originally from Nigeria, Adelaja is a follower of Picasso, Braque, and other cubist artists. Their studies of Africa and its masks became informative tools for the artist. This exhibit is an emancipation from photographs and realistic observations. The artworks push the visual language of using depicted forms. They rather depict time, dimension, depth and volume. Adelaja invites the viewer to experience the work the same way it exists in the unconscious mind: independent of nature, time, and space.
